Marty Willigan, Hofstra’s first two-time All-American in wrestling (1968 and 1969), was a two-time NCAA qualifier and conference champion. He placed fourth at the NCAA Championships in 1968 and second in 1969, losing to Dan Gable in the finals. After graduating in 1969, Willigan competed in the World Games for the Deaf, winning gold medals in 1969 and 1973. He later turned to coaching, contributing to American and Canadian teams in various World Games for the Deaf. Marty worked at Gallaudet University for 34 years, coaching their wrestling team and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf, and was inducted into the NCAA Division III Hall of Fame and the USA Deaf Sports Federation Hall of Fame.
